Month in Review: September 2022

Updated: Oct 20, 2022

k6 Work

This month, I've been submitting talk proposals to various events to show to the community what xk6-browser is. Fortunately, my talk has been accepted at TestJSSummit 2022 and also at Test.Bash(); 2022. For Test.Bash(); 2022, I recorded my solution to their UI automation challenge and showed how you can use xk6-browser for browser-based performance testing. For TestJSSummit 2022, I'll be talking about why a medley of front-end and back-end performance testing is needed to have an optimal performance testing strategy.

I've also been helping the xk6-browser team for any product testing that they need and reviewing documentation so I can also better understand how to use the tool.

I also spoke about my week of browser testing during one of the episodes of k6 Office Hours. If you're interested to hear more about xk6-browser, my first thoughts about it and my personal opinion about the state of browser testing in k6, check out the video below.

I've also been working on a community program that aims to recognise performance testing experts within the community. The DevRel team has reached out to our first champions and the program is in full swing and ready to be launched. I'll share more about this in my October monthly review.

Community/Side Projects Work

This month, I've been fortunate to be invited to speak at Testival and travel to Croatia. I delivered my first ever keynote and it was my talk about accessibility and how we can shift accessibility testing to the left. The Croatian community are very welcoming and I want to give a shoutout to Base58 and Testival for sponsoring my travel and accomodation. Branimir Valentić from Base58 and Valentina Valentić from DICE have both been very hospitable and made my stay in Osijek very comfortable.

It was also great to network with a lot of people and I met people that I've connected online such as Mirza Šišić and Irja Straus.

To finish this month, I attended TestBash UK in person and I delivered an activity, talk, workshop and AMA (Ask Me Anything) session all about performance testing. It was really well received and I'm genuinely happy that the attendees found it useful.

It was really great to see a lot of people that I've connected with online such as Julia Pottinger, Stuart Day, Sergio Freire, Nithin, and many others for the first time. It was also great to see other familiar faces that I wouldn't have known if it wasn't for the testing community 💜

A massive thank you to Ministry of Testing for organising a successful event and I can't wait to attend next year's event!

Finally, I've also rebranded my personal blog to testingwithmarie.com 💜

Personal Development

🏋🏻‍♀️ My average step count is higher than last month's which I'm pleased about. I'll aim to get this higher again. I also walked a half marathon with my friends 🥳
